This is a great original antique mechanical 'Speaking Dog' bank made by the Shephard Hardware company circa 1885. The bank features a girl with her dog, when you push the lever the girl is supposed to drop the coin in the slot while the dog opens his mouth and wags his tail. The bank measures 7 1/4" in length at the base by 7 1/2" in height to the top of the girls head. There are no breaks or cracks to the cast iron; the paint shows wear in spots with the original enclosure included. The bank currently doesn't operate correctly - when you press the lever the girls hand starts to move and the dog starts to open his mouth, but it doesn't complete the movement. A great antique mechanical bank.
